How to Invest
Like Harvard
A Harvard Education
The school's success in expanding its endowment holds lessons for individuals:
- Seek out the best managers because there's a huge difference between them and the ones who are just competent, especially in private equity.
- Pick investments that are not correlated strongly to each other. Foreign stocks often track U.S. stocks, while commodities and real estate don't.
- Rather than placing all your bets on U.S. stocks and bonds, diversify and seek professional help to put money in foreign stocks, commodities and the like.
- Think long-term because you have a much wider choice of investment options if you are not worried about selling assets in a hurry.
