Bear is an affordable suburb about 12 miles from Wilmington, with parks and shopping and dining facilities. It is home to Lums Pond State Park, which was built around Delaware’s largest freshwater pond and offers boating, fishing, trails, and sports fields, according to the Delaware State Parks website. Bear is part of the Colonial, Christina, and Appoquinimink school districts, and data from Onboard Informatics show that Bear schools perform better than the state average.
