The new Audi A7 is a striking new luxury hatchback that not only handles well but is surprisingly practical—as long as you don't mind that maximum seating capacity fits only four people. The car is quicker, cheaper, and more fuel-efficient than competitors such as the BMW 550i Gran Turismo, Mercedes CLS550, and Porsche Panamera and it comes with standard all-wheel drive. The A7's hatchback design with rear seats that fold down in a 60/40 pattern also offers voluminous hauling space. Its toughest competitor is probably Audi's own newly designed A6 sedan, which seats five and costs about ten grand less. We'd still be sorely tempted by the A7. It's a real knockout.
