Reno, Nev.

America’s Best Places Rank: 44th

Why it’s ranked: Close enough to Tahoe for great skiing and solid hiking in the summer, Reno is a good city for the outdoorsman and gambler alike. Home to the National Bowling Stadium, as well as a host of casinos, bars, and restaurants, Reno pretty much rocks. It got knocked down a few notches on this list due to a high foreclosure rate paired with high unemployment.
