The Cars GM's Hopes Are Riding On
Special Report GM's Future

Chevrolet Tahoe/GMC Yukon

Available: Late fall 2005 or early 2006

GM has a lot riding on these new full-size sport-utility vehicles. On the upside, it should get better profit margins with these trucks because they're cheaper to manufacture than current models, and new vehicles generally have lower rebates. Plus, the interiors should be some of then nicest work GM has done in recent memory. Under Lutz, GM has stepped up with richer materials and better construction in the dashboard, instrument panel, and seats. On the downside, increased competition in the SUV business and gasoline prices hovering well above $2 means will make the SUVs a tougher sell than they were when last launched anew in 1999.
