Spun off four years ago from computer maker Acer, BenQ designs products for other companies but is more interested in promoting its own brand of TVs, monitors, and cell phones in the U.S., Europe, and, increasingly, China. BenQ is the largest shareholder in AU Optronics, another Acer spin-off that's one of the world's leading producers of LCD panels. In China: BenQ has 8,300 China employees, with an investment of $123 million.
