A House You Won't Stumble Through
Instead of a minefield of difficulties and potential accidents, this home offers design that promotes comfort and safety
If you're buying, building, or remodeling a house with your retirement in mind, remember that you want to live in a place that can accommodate you as you age -- as, say, your joints stiffen, your eyesight dims, and little aches and pains set in.
This award-winning 2,500-square-foot home in Murietta, Calif., was conceived and built using the principles of "universal," or "barrier-free," design. With its unobtrusive features that make it adaptable for use by those with disabilities, the house suits residents of any age or physical limitation. The design consultant was Susan Mack, an occupational therapist and founder of Homes for Easy Living.
