A Bookshelf Full of Inspiration
When designer David Laituri needs a spark, he finds it in his personal eclectic collection of meaningful odds and ends right in his office
We've all had flat days -- the kind where you clock 12 hours at the office, but by the time you head home you're not sure you did anything worthwhile. No bright idea came your way. No creative task was done. No memorable moments. So what to do? How do you snatch a little inspiration when you don't have time for a hike in the redwoods or a visit to the Louvre?
One way might be your own, personal collection that somehow touches you. In this instance, it's an office bookcase carefully decorated with objects, shapes, symbols, memories. Designer David Laituri draws upon his three-level bookcase for inspiration and has invited us along for a tour. Enjoy. Get a laugh. Better yet, get an idea.
It has worked for Laituri. During his career, he has designed numerous award-winning products for many well-known companies, including General Motors, Apple Computer, Hewlett-Packard, Nike, Oxo, Polaroid, and Procter & Gamble. He's currently the director of product development for Brookstone in Merrimack, N.H., and believes his favorite project is "the next one." He holds a bachelors degree in design from Ohio State University and an MBA from the University of Westminster in London.
