Spider Boot Antipersonnel Mine Foot Protection System

1998

MoMA's "Safe" exhibit may take a broad definition of fear, but it devotes ample attention to outright physical dangers. These boots keep the wearer nearly six inches off the ground, away from a detonating mine. Shrapnel falls in the space beneath the shoe while self-sacrificing aluminum honeycomb encased beneath absorbs the impact of the explosion.
