Make It Human

Figurines, busts, and other references to the body that were common in art and design in the 19th century seemed to disappear with modernism's sleek lines and industrial materials. But Moss sees a revival, which he attributes in part to technology.

Echoing John Naisbitt's concept of "high tech, high touch," Moss recalls the way, in the 90s, computers began to be anthropomorphized. "Technology became obsolete so quickly that companies didn't want to invest a lot of money in giving it form because the tech is going to be obsolete at 2:30 this afternoon. So they'd give it to a designer and say: 'Give it a face.' That way, people would think it was user-friendly."
