Deadspin.com
EDITOR'S REVIEW: ![]()
THE GOOD: Copious links to other local sports blogs around the country
THE BAD: Few news breaks make it a discretionary read, rather than a must-check
THE BOTTOM LINE: Gawker.com's characteristically snarky take on sports and sports media
This blog, rich in attitude, gleefully skewers the bloviating sports-media talking heads that litter the airwaves and back pages. Where else can you read a regular feature titled "Why Your Hometown Columnist Sucks"? Like other offerings from the gawker.com group, Deadspin.com serves frequently updated posts that are easy to read and search. But site editor Will Leitch manages to maintain a die-hard sports fan's sense of earnestness when it's appropriate.
Aside from media criticism, Deadspin.com is at its best when it's dealing with topics no mainstream sports media outlets will touch. Think ESPN.com is going to run anonymously submitted photos of Chicago Bears quarterback Kyle Orton getting drunk in an Iowa City bar? And like other good blogs, Deadspin.com aggregates links from other news sites and local blogs.
