Eli and Edythe Broad are philanthropic superstars among Los Angeles art lovers. More recently, Broad has focused his energy on giving the nation's public schools a corporate makeover. Broad, who founded KB Home and SunAmerica (now AIG Retirement Services), and his wife have given almost $1.5 billion since 2001 to their trio of foundations in Los Angeles and Santa Monica, Calif. The gifts have funded initiatives in contemporary art, education, science, and civic development.
