The British Sunbeam Super Sport, like many cars of the time, was a direct descendant of high-end bicycles. Nevertheless, at the time Sunbeams were widely respected as nimble alternatives to Rolls-Royce and Bentley. Indeed, a Sunbeam was the first British car to win a Grand Prix race and future models set a number of land-speed records. The company was acquired by Chrysler in the mid-'60s. Bonham's reports that the car is being sold because the owner, an elderly enthusiast, believes it should belong to someone who will drive it with the youthful vim it deservers.
