Waterman Aerobile
1957
Waldo Dean Waterman was another competitor in the Flivver competition to build an inexpensive plane. In 1934, he created the Arrowplane, an odd-looking craft with large wings and no tail. The prototype incorporated many standard auto components, including a Ford radiator grill, a steering wheel and headlights. In addition to designing other aircraft, Waterman continued to refine this design. By 1957, he designed Aerobile #6 plane, which also had removable wings. The Aerobile did fly, but it was never certified for flight by aviation authorities.
