Las Pwnistas
A team of undergraduates from Parsons The New School of Design, called Las Pwnistas, won an honorable mention for Innovative Game Design for this game, Gym Jungle. Although they started out with ideas like visualizing a college drinking game called Beer Pong, the students instead settled on two classic childhood phys-ed challenges: rope climbing and dodgeball. The game play involves scaling to the top of the rope while following cues from balls that fly across the phone's screen. Making the ropes a complex grid rather than a simple vertical structure increases the appeal of this game -- which no doubt will give many a gamer flashbacks to gym class.
