Going to Graceland
Elvis Presley's Graceland
Attention, cultural snobs. Elvis Presley's Graceland Mansion in March was officially designated a National Historic Landmark. Yes, the home that Elvis purchased for $103,000 after the release of Heartbreak Hotel is now on the same list as George Washington's Mount Vernon. One of the best times to visit the 14-acre estate in Memphis is during Elvis Week, held this year from Aug. 8-16, 2006. As befits someone whose success was in the music industry, Graceland's recorded tour is first-rate. After hearing the King speak and sing over your headphones, you might be tempted to sign up for Sirius Satellite Radio when you get home for its all-Elvis channel.
