DJ Danger Mouse

DJ Danger Mouse dove headlong into controversy with his 2004 mash-up of music from two best-selling LPs: the vocals of Jay-Z's Black Album overlaid on beats from The Beatles seminal White Album. The resulting compilation won Danger Mouse critical acclaim, not to mention cease-and-desist letters from EMI, the White Album's copyright holder. Music-activist site Downhill Battle organized an act of civil disobedience and on Feb. 24, 2004, some 170 sites made copies of the album available for download. Additional cease-and-desist letters, and more than 1 million downloads, ensued.
