Audi unveiled this Sportback Concept at the 2009 North American International Auto Show in Detroit. Named for its sweeping roof line, the concept previews a new production sedan, the A7, due in 2010. The five-door hatchback will compete with luxurious coupe-like sedans from the likes of Aston Martin, Porsche, Mercedes-Benz (DAI) and even Lamborghini. Audi took a minimalist approach to the concept's design; the roof, shoulder, and sill lines appear to have been drawn with a single stroke. The design also updates Audi's standard single-frame grille with more angular corners. Under the hood is a 3.0-liter V6 TDI diesel, producing 225 horses and expected to achieve fuel consumption of about 39 mpg.
The Verdict: A new star in Audi's firmament.
