At the Thailand International Motor Expo (Nov. 28-Dec. 10), Ford (F) is showing this Ranger Max, a concept that hints at future versions of a production-bound small pickup. The Ranger's beefy design was inspired by power tools and sporting equipment—witness the cog-like detailing found on the wheel arches and the honeycomb air intakes on the hood. Chunky tires, flared fenders, and a domed hood add to the concept's appeal as a rough-and-tumble truck. Ford's Australia-based Asia Pacific and Africa design team collaborated with Ford truck specialists in Thailand to create the concept. No word yet on what type of power plant a production Ranger Max might incorporate.
The Verdict: Tough as nails.
