The Making of: A Superyacht
Up to two years of custom planning, meticulous sculpting, and heavy lifting go into the creation of each Swan 131, the monster of all luxury sailboats
Celebrated Finnish boatmaker Nautor’s Swan crafts about 35 yachts per year at its Boatbuilding Technology Center, an enormous warehouse and marina facility in Pietarsaari, Finland. The boats, which range in length from 45 to 131 feet, and in price from $500,000 to $40 million, are fine-tuned to each owner’s exact specifications for design and performance.
In the summer of 2006 the company completed two years of construction on the first Swan 131, one of the largest lines of custom yachts ever to be built. In this slide show, Nautor’s Swan invites BusinessWeek.com inside the painstaking process of building this beautiful sailing behemoth.
