Amazon Unboxed
Amazon had been rumored for nearly two years to be preparing a music download service to complement its CD business. That never materialized, but recently Amazon announced a video download service called Amazon Unbox. Reviews of the service were mixed, with some observers calling it clunky and slow. But it was Amazon’s first foray into digital media, and it has said it’s dedicated to making a go of digital media services for the long haul.
Amazon is also dabbling in media-mogulhood. It has a Web interview show called Amazon Fishbowl, hosted by Bill Maher. And it recently optioned screen rights to Keith Donohue's best-selling novel The Stolen Child.
