Thompson joins the ranks of Ronald Reagan and Arnold Schwarzenegger as those who have blurred the lines between politics and show business. Thompson launched his acting career in 1985 and later starred in such Hollywood films as The Hunt for Red October (1990) and Cape Fear (1991). In 2003, he joined the cast of the NBC television series Law & Order, becoming the first U.S. Senator to hold a full-time TV acting job during his term. Thompson keeps a hand in politics by acting as a senior news analyst for ABC News Radio.
