The Commander-in-Chief
Master P
In his early twenties Percy "Master P" Miller used a $15,000 inheritance to start a record store in Oakland, Calif., called No Limit Records. Observing which rap records sold and which lingered on the shelves gave him the confidence to start recording albums himself. Through the '90s, Master P built his No Limit Enterprises empire to include the P. Miller clothing line, and interests in real estate and other industries. In 1999 Fortune estimated his business was worth over $400 million, a feat still unmatched by any individual in hip hop. While his current worth is unknown, it is estimated to have fallen significantly. Later this year, his book, Guaranteed Success, a guide to becoming a multi-millionaire, will hit the stands.
