The power slugger, now a switch hitter for the Yankees, was a superstar in Japan, playing for the Yomiuri Giants. There, he was named Most Valuable Player three times and often led the Japanese Central League in home runs. Back in 2003, he signed with the Yankees, and in his first game, he hit a grand slam. His current $52 million contract runs through 2009. Last year, he missed a big part of the season due to a wrist injury.
