With nearly a million flights taking off and landing at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport in 2006 and nearly 86 million travelers passing through its terminal halls in 2005, the airport recently laid claim to the title of busiest in the world for passengers for the second year running. It’s a major connecting hub from Europe to cities on the U.S. West Coast (and beyond), and officials figure that the regional economic impact of the airport is more than $18.7 billion a year. A new international terminal that will add 10 gates is scheduled for completion in 2010.
