The granddad of the energy drinks, Red Bull came out in 1987 in Austria and was soon expanding globally. It has about the same amount of caffeine as a cup of coffee, but its marketers play up a range of amino acids, vitamins, and other healthy substances to provide pep when needed. Still, as a companion to vodka, Red Bull is a common sight on the nightclub circuit’s cocktail card.
