Seymourpowell's Design Fantasyland

The British industrial design company has imagined, and sometimes built, everything from irons to flying cruise ships

By Helen Walters

British design agency Seymourpowell was founded by industrial designer Dick Powell and advertising creative/graphic designer Richard Seymour back in 1984. Since then, the pair have built up a team of around 60 who work across a wide variety of products, from household objects such as kettles and irons to larger-scale items such as trains and helicopters. Then there are their more conceptual projects, such as the ENV hydrogen-fuel-cell-powered motorcycle and a hydrogen-powered airborne hotel. And, though both Seymour and Powell are very clear that their business is not rocket science, as it turns out they were recently responsible for the concept interior of the Virgin Galactic spaceship. Here, take a gravity-free whirl through some of their recent projects.
