Internet Plagiarism
Fabricating a paper has never been easier. Just type a subject into a search engine, cut-and-paste information from various sources, and turn in a paper bereft of original thought or reference citations. Half of high school students and 40% of college students admitted to Internet plagiarism, according to the 2005 Center for Academic Integrity study. That's up from 10% in 1999.
To help schools keep students in check, Oakland (Calif.)-based iParadigms introduced software in 1998 that checks student papers against an online database of papers and other references. iParadigms says the service is used by more than 9,000 educational institutions in more than 90 countries.
