Lush Landscape

(2006 Visitor Growth Rate: 10.0%)

Known officially as the Lao People's Democratic Republic, the landlocked country was known in ancient times as the Land of a Million Elephants. Not so anymore, but Laos is a heavily forested and mountainous country with a deep historical heritage. The capital city of Vientiane is known for its antique markets and museums, while Luang Prabang is widely known for its ancient Buddhist temples and lush green meadows near the Mekong River.
