Located in southeastern Anatolia, Gaziantep is known for its cultural heritage. As the oldest city of Hitite origin, it has, over time, played host to Persians, Romans, Byzantines, and Seljuk Turks. Their contributions include a massive fortress that surrounds the city and a collection of beautiful mosques and small palaces. The city is also famous for its collection of Zeugma mosaics, some of which are exhibited at the Gaziantep Museum.
Foreigners here tend to buy older Turkish homes to restore them. Local real estate agents say that prices are steadily rising and have doubled over the past year.
