Fukutake House
Fukutake House signage
The Fukutake House demonstrates the importance of typography, showing the role type can play in three-dimensional design. Here, the facade of Fukutake House is formed from type, blending 2D with 3D. “Fukutake House was a breath of fresh air amidst a clutter of ordinary typography entries that, sad to say, were pedestrian, predictable, tired, and dull,” says juror, typographer, and designer Catherine Griffiths. “Fukutake House was a well-executed design that harmonized typography and architecture with a feeling for space, scale, material, and form. Stepping outside the expected, the result is inventive, gracefully restrained, and packed with purpose and meaning.”
