C-Cap

Bang & Olufsen Medicom and Made by Makers

A number of devices nominated for the 2007 Index: Awards this year proposed more user-friendly products for diabetics. This sleek prototype was designed by Bang & Olufsen Medicom. The goal was to give diabetics visual and sound cues to help them remember to take their insulin injections before they go to sleep, or to remind them that they have already taken it. The pen flashes a short green light every 24 hours; a long green flash signals after the patient has administered the injection or a red light flashes if the pen isn't used within an hour, sending a more urgent reminder. The C-Cap is modeled on a pen (as are other self-injectible devices on the market) to make it more user-friendly.
