Then:
In 2006, BBC Worldwide pegged the stock footage market at $300 million—estimated to reach $1 billion by 2010. While Joel Holland's startup Footage Firm had staked out only a small fraction of that last year—about $100,000—its cost-cutting model of contracting videographers and selling their footage in bulk to media outlets such as Disney (DIS), Discovery, and Comcast-owned (CMCSA) network E!, holds promise for rapid growth.

Now:
Holland has been approached by several investment banks in the past year but insists on remaining self-funded for now. Footage Firm's revenues are up from last year, but the founder says he's unsure whether they will meet his past projection of $500,000. Over the next year he plans to create new revenue streams by repurposing footage for consumer Web sites. And BusinessWeek readers weren't the only ones to notice Holland's keen management: The Small Business Administration voted him the Best Small Business Entrepreneur of 2007.
