French architect Rudy Ricciotti designed the Musée des Civilizations de l'Europe et de la Méditerranée, a museum of regional culture, to evoke the casbahs of North Africa. A concrete web based on Islamic decorative motifs will envelop the building, which is set to open in 2011 on the Marseille waterfront near Fort Saint-Jean. The web will be made from Ductal, which is six to eight times stronger than traditional concrete.
