Addressing the U.S. Congress in November, Sarkozy received a standing ovation when he declared: "France is the friend of the United States of America." The relationship between the two countries has come a long way since 2003, when the word "French" was stricken from restaurant menus at the House of Representatives in response to France's opposition to the war in Iraq.
