The Vineyards

In 1976, the first modern vineyards were planted in the Valley of Tears near El Rom kibbutz, which was the site of the largest tank battle of the 1973 Yom Kippur War. The shells of some 250 burned Syrian tanks were cleared in order to plant the vineyard of El Rom. In 1982, the first grapes showed great potential, and a year later the Golan Heights Winery was officially founded. In 1983, the winery released its first vintage—Yarden Sauvignon Blanc.
