Great Save
Windows Home Server marketing
Windows Home Server debuted in 2007 as a way for consumers to store, back up, and access their growing collections of photos, songs, and videos. Great product, lousy name. Consumers are left to wonder if the product includes a propeller beanie for the geeks who would be drawn in by the name. So Microsoft (MSFT) came up with a clever viral marketing gambit that includes a spoof of a children's picture book called Mommy, Why Is There a Server in the House? Helping Your Child Understand the Stay-at-Home Server.
