This Cosmetic Trend Has Legs—Hairy Ones

Look for more guys to show up in shorts on casual Fridays this summer. Sclero–­therapy—the removal of varicose and spider veins—has become the fastest-growing cosmetic treatment for men. The number of sclerotherapy procedures performed on U.S. males has risen 225% over the past five years, according to the American Academy of Cosmetic Surgery, compared with a 2.5% rise for women. Over the same period, the number of male patients treated by AACS physicians has grown almost 14%, with liposuction the most popular treatment. It’s all part of the rising pressure on men to age gracefully, says AACS spokesperson Sarah Massier, “and not just in the workplace.”
