MDs' Insurance Rx

Fixing the health-care system has been a big issue in this 2008 election season. Of possible interest to the candidates: A new study in the Apr.  1 issue of Annals of Internal Medicine finds that 59% of the nation’s physicians back the idea of national health insurance, aka a single-payer system. That’s up from 49% five years ago. Only 14% of the more than 2,000 doctors polled favored incremental or piecemeal reform (tax incentives to buy insurance, state mandates for employer-provided coverage) instead of a federally administered program. –Catherine Arnst
