The Volkswagen Touareg V10 TDI gets only an EPA-estimated 20 mpg, not much better than the gasoline engine in the Touareg V8 FSI. Rising diesel fuel prices have nearly offset that small advantage in fuel efficiency. The V10 diesel model, at $69,030 suggested retail, comes with every conceivable option, but it also costs a lot more than the V8 gasoline model, at $49,080 suggested retail. Next year, Volkswagen is expected to introduce a less expensive, six-cylinder diesel Touareg that can be sold in all 50 states. The current V10 can only be sold in 42 states.
