While the nation's capital scores well in terms of its number of museums and historic buildings, it lags behind in terms of sustainability initiatives, with only 27 completed LEED-certified buildings (Chicago has 37). The city claims to be working on its green policies, requiring all buildings of more than 50,000 square feet to conform to the city's new green standards by 2010.
