No. 6: San Francisco

The city by the Bay is perhaps surprisingly low on the list given that its residents have historically been super-environmentally aware. The study says San Francisco "posted nice results" in sustainability and Community & Housing Design Awards. The city has also set up a Building Green Task Force to enforce eco-sensitive standards on city buildings. But its local transit system wasn't deemed extensive enough to bump the city further up the list.
