Bosses: Understand the Relationship

Real-world bosses are not that different from those you might find in a video game. Your goal is to take out the bosses in front of you, through a combination of stealth, wit, and gumption. Some are more easily dispatched than others, and as you reach upper management levels, it becomes more difficult to get people out of the way. First, though, you need to prove you understand the boss/bossed relationship—your boss is not a parental figure or friend. As D'Alessandro says, "It's a business transaction." Follow your boss's directives (as long as they don't run counter to your own), help him out so you in turn might be helped, but never hesitate to slip into his or her place.
