Making It New: The Art and Style of Sara and Gerald Murphy
June 1 – Sept. 14
Gerald and Sara Murphy, two artists of the "Lost Generation" who happened also to be wealthy American socialites, are for the first time being considered in a major museum exhibition. Having moved from New York to the French Riviera in the early 20th century, the expatriates counted as their friends the likes of Fitzgerald, Picasso, Porter, and Hemingway and were the inspiration for Fitzgerald's Tender Is the Night. The exhibition Making It New explores how the Murphys' style influenced the work of other artists and writers.
