Sinn Féin's Impact

Sinn Féin's Impact

The headquarters of Irish Republican party Sinn Féin are located in the Catholic Falls Road area. On the side of the building is a mural commemorating IRA prisoner Bobby Sands, the subject of the film Hunger, which recently debuted at Cannes. Sands died in 1981 at age 27 as a result of a hunger strike in protest of the treatment of political prisoners at Maze Prison. Sinn Féin leader Gerry Adams was imprisoned with Sands at Maze in the 1970s.
