Hurricane Ivan

Hurricane Ivan caused billions of dollars in damage in parts of the Caribbean and Southern U.S., cutting off phone service to many Florida residents. In preparation, the company then called Cingular Wireless staged more than 85 portable cell sites known as Cellular on Wheels and Cellular on Light Trucks, or COWS and COLTS, at emergency network facilities. Sprint (S) donated wireless phones to the American Red Cross and prepaid long-distance phone cards to aid and safety workers.
