Future Personal Mobility in the City

Joseph Simpson, MPhil/ PhD

Inspired by the Clever car project designed at the Technical University of Berlin (with help from BMW and partial funding from the 5th Frame Programme of the EU Commission) and the University of Bath and the 1L Volkswagen, Simpson explored the relationship between people and how the built environment has evolved because of the car. Filling the gap between a car and a bike, his research determined a package of 3.1m long and 1.5m wide was sufficient to fulfill the needs of those whose journeys are made with less than two people. The electric vehicle has luggage compartments in both the front and rear, located above the rear-mounted engine.
