This year's sudden drop in new-vehicle demand for big SUVs and pickups is closely reflected in a drop in values for used vehicles, too. That can create a vicious cycle, where shoppers postpone their next purchase, rather than take the hit on the value of their trade-in, which depresses demand and trade-in values even more. For the first half of 2008, new Tahoe sales fell 26.6% from the year-ago period. GM is taking the radical step of stopping production by 2010, at one of the two plants that build the Tahoe and related models, the Chevy Suburban and GMC Yukon.
