The alliance of Indian motorcycle-maker Bajaj, Japan's Nissan, and France's Renault has been the most aggressive in trying to match Tata and its Nano. The three partners have a joint venture that is aiming for a small car for India with a price target of $2,500, to be launched in 2011. However, the Bajaj, Nissan, Renault alliance has tried not to box itself in as much as Tata, with the three saying the $2,500 figure is just an "indicative cost."
