It's All About The Hot Shots

A mogul bio bonanza hits bookstores this fall, with perhaps the most anticipated being The Snowball, about investor Warren Buffett. (A Buffett aphorism: “Life is like a snowball—the important thing is finding wet snow and a really long hill.”) Author Alice Schroeder, a friend and former Morgan Stanley managing director, got a $7 million advance for the book, due out on Sept. 29. Also arriving in autumn: memoirs by investor T. Boone Pickens, airline entrepreneur Richard Branson, and ex-media magnate Ted Turner. And joining Buffett in the official-bio category: Hugh Hefner. Mr. Playboy, by historian Steven Watts, includes a centerfold photo of Hef, in robe and PJs, with the trio from TV’s Girls Next Door. Top that, Sage of Omaha.
